A large share of furniture doesn't leave a flat in one piece. A corner sofa, a double bed or a sliding-door wardrobe was assembled on the spot — and it will only come out dismantled. That is the part of the job that makes people put furniture off for years.
We dismantle furniture on site and take it away straight afterwards. You don't have to supply tools or work out where to put the dismantled parts.
Dismantling is the norm, not the exception
Large furniture rarely comes into a flat assembled. It was delivered in parts and put together in the room, and the doorway hasn't got any wider since. So for most bulky items dismantling is the only way to get them out. You don't have to know that in advance — send a photo and we'll judge it ourselves.
When dismantling is needed
— they consist of several sections that have to be separated;
— the metal mechanism makes them heavy and unwieldy;
— the frame is wider than the doorway;
— often fixed to the wall or the ceiling;
— taller than the distance between the ceiling and the door;
— the units and the worktop have to be separated individually.
What dismantling means for each type of furniture
— we separate the sections at their joints, take the legs off and remove the pull-out mechanism. Each section then travels separately.
— we take off the mattress, lift out the slatted base, unscrew the headboard and footboard and split the frame into its sides. After that the widest part is just a single board.
— first the doors come off and the shelves and drawers come out, then we dismantle the carcass: sides, top, base and back panel separately.
— we unscrew the legs. Glass tops are lifted separately and last, because leaning against a wall they break easily.
— the worktop comes off first, then we separate the units from each other and from their wall fixings.
What dismantling means for the furniture itself
Chipboard furniture with cam-lock fittings often can't be put back together so that it holds — the thread crumbles out of the panel on the very first attempt. For removal that makes no difference, because the piece is going to the landfill anyway.
It only matters if you were planning to reassemble the piece. In that case tell us beforehand — we'll dismantle it more gently and keep the fittings, but we can't guarantee it will hold afterwards.
How we do it
We dismantle in the room where the furniture stands. We cover the floor under the work area so screws and sharp edges don't scratch the parquet. We watch the doorways and corners — that's where damage happens most often. If the room has just been painted, say so straight away: we'll dismantle further from the wall.
We take away every part — sides, shelves, doors, slats, screws and fixings. Nothing is left in the room for you to clear up.
Can you do it yourself
Anyone can dismantle a small shelf unit. Heavy furniture is different: a wardrobe carcass without its doors and shelves becomes unstable and can collapse; fingers get trapped in a pull-out sofa mechanism; a glass top breaks exactly when it's set aside "for a moment". If you're not confident, better not to touch it — we come with our own tools.
Price
Dismantling starts at €15 and is added to the removal price. Sofa removal starts at €35, wardrobe removal at €40, and dismantling is charged separately. Prices exclude VAT.
Dismantling and the floor
Dismantling is often exactly what makes it possible to get a piece down from an upper floor with no lift at all. A whole corner sofa won't go down a narrow stairwell — a dismantled one will. The same goes for the lift: a wardrobe in parts fits, a whole one doesn't. That's why the form asks for the floor and whether there is a lift: together with the photos, that lets us work out how much has to come apart and quote a price that doesn't change.
