When you move, it's rare for everything to come with you. The old sofa doesn't suit the new flat, the wardrobe is the wrong size, the bed is worn out. Taking it all along means paying to transport it and dealing with the same question again a month later.
We don't take furniture to the new address. We remove it from the old flat and hand it over for disposal. Moving belongings is a different service — a removals service, which we don't provide.
What isn't worth taking with you
Before a move it's worth judging every large item separately. A worn sofa or an old wardrobe costs more to transport than it is worth: you pay for it as a large load, it has to be dismantled, loaded, unloaded and reassembled. Often that's more than buying new, and the result doesn't suit the new room anyway — the old pale wardrobe against a different wall, under a different ceiling height, looks like something the previous tenants left behind.
The second test is simple: if you'd already like to replace the item, moving it only postpones the same decision by a year and adds transport costs on top. Whatever isn't coming with you is easier to deal with now, while it's still in the old flat, than to move and then have removed a second time from the new address.
The deadline is usually firm
A move almost always has a fixed date: handing over the flat, the end of a tenancy, completing a sale. The flat has to be left empty — as it was taken on.
With a tenancy that affects the deposit. Furniture left behind is a cost to the landlord, which they deduct from the deposit — usually at their price, not yours. Equally, a bed or a wardrobe left in the flat can be the reason the handover isn't signed off on the agreed day.
How to fit it around moving day
The simplest approach is to book the removal before the main load, while there is still room to work in the flat and the hallways aren't full of boxes. Then on moving day the movers take only what is actually going with you.
If that isn't possible, the other option is a removal straight after the move, while you still have the keys and there is time left before the handover. Give the date by which the flat has to be emptied in the form, so we can take it into account in our reply.
How it works
We arrive at the agreed time, dismantle if an item won't otherwise go through the door, carry it out of the flat, load it and haul it to the landfill. You carry nothing. If the whole flat has to be emptied, see apartment clearance; if there's only one item left — single item removal.
