In Darzciems furniture removal is usually ordered after a renovation, after an inheritance, or simply because an old wardrobe is no longer wanted and there is no way to take it anywhere yourself. We arrive at the agreed time, dismantle the piece if there's no other way, carry it out of the property, load it and take it to the landfill.
We have neither an office nor a depot in Darzciems — we work here on call-out, and the job is planned in advance from your photos.
What sets Darzciems apart from Purvciems and Plavnieki
Darzciems is a densely built inner-city district on the eastern side, between Purvciems, Plavnieki and Skirotava, but it is not just another continuous microdistrict. Alongside the uniform blocks of Purvciems and Plavnieki, Darzciems has quarters of detached houses, individual apartment buildings, warehouses and commercial areas — the stock can change completely along a single street. For us that means standard assumptions don't work here:
In the low-rise streets there is no communal stairwell, but the furniture is often standing in a basement, a shed or on a veranda, and the route to the van runs across the yard or along the fence. Gates, a hedge or a narrow driveway decide how close to the door the van can get.
Where there is a stairwell, the deciding factor is the half-landing rather than the width of the flat door. The lift cabins in the older series are too small for a long or tall item, so a wardrobe, a bed frame and a mattress go down by hand more often than by lift.
There are also warehouses, garages and retail units here. We remove office and fit-out furniture from sites like these, but access, entry gates and working hours are set by the person responsible for the site — that has to be agreed before we set out.
That is why the form asks for the floor, whether there is a lift and what type of property it is. In Darzciems two neighbouring addresses can call for entirely different plans.
Traffic and access on mixed-use streets
Darzciema iela, Lubanas iela and the South Bridge corridor give the district broad transport links, which is convenient — reaching the area with a van is no problem. The harder part is that the same heavy traffic and mixed land use mean lorries, commercial access roads and occupied kerbside exactly where we need to stand. On the main roads stopping is brief, so we plan loading compactly and bring the furniture over by hand.
If your entrance is off a residential courtyard, or access is through gates, put it in the notes. It changes the length of the carry, and therefore the size of the crew.
The balcony and the basement as storage
As in any densely built district, unwanted furniture goes first to the balcony, then to the basement or a utility room. Two practical consequences: a piece on the balcony has to come back in through the same opening, and after a long spell in a basement an upholstered piece comes out heavier and dirtier. Tell us on the form how long it has been there — that determines how many people we send and whether dismantling is needed.
What we remove in Darzciems
We take household and office furniture in any condition, damaged pieces included. The list is headed by sofa removal and mattress removal; then come beds, wardrobes, tables, chairs and shelving units. When a piece won't go through the doorway whole, we turn to dismantling. If all the rooms have to be cleared, that is apartment clearance. On commercial sites we work with office furniture removal. Everything else is in the services section.
